F/A-22 Raptors Fly Over Super Bowl

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AETCNS) -- Two F/A-22 Raptors from the 43rd Fighter Squadron here will participate in Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Fla., during pre-game ceremonies Feb. 6.

The Raptors, piloted by Maj. Lance Pilch, from Flemington, N.J., and Maj. Max Marosko, from Coupland, Texas, will perform the flyover along with two Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets from Naval Air Station Oceania, Va.

“The revolutionary capabilities of the Raptor provide today’s Air Force warriors with leading edge technology to conduct air operations,” said Col. Tim Merrell, 325th Operations Group commander. “The Raptor delivers unrivaled ‘first-look, first-shot, first-kill’ capability against enemy aircraft and counters all known air defense systems.”

The Super Bowl, a television event with an estimated 145 million viewers, is a perfect venue for the United States Air Force to show the American public what a superb flying machine it is.

“We are enthusiastic about showcasing the Air Dominance capabilities of the F/A-22,” said Brig. Gen. Jack Egginton, 325th Fighter Wing commander, “and the Super Bowl is the perfect venue.”
